Canadian Silver Dollars

1950's Voyageur varieties
4 water lines, 2½ water lines & 1 water line

During the early 1950's, silver dollar dies were at times re-polished in the mint, and parts of the designs were weakened or removed. This resulted in many variations on the number and length of the water lines in front of the canoe.
Although these differences first appeared on the 1950 and 1951 Dollars, collectors first took notice with the 1955 Arnprior issue and as a result, any configuration of defective waterlines became known as Arnprior Dollars.
The regular voyageur has the usual 4 water lines. In 1950, 1951 and 1955 some coins have 2½ water lines. In 1957, the voyageur variety has only one water line.
