1947 Voyageur date varieties Pointed 7, blunt 7 & maple leaf ![]() The 1947 dies used two styles of 7s. The pointed 7 is a tall 7 with the lower tail pointing back to the right. The blunt 7 is shorter 7 with the lower tail pointing almost straight down. The 1947 maple leaf dollar was actually struck and issued in early 1948. With India gaining their independence from the British Empire it was necessary to remove the ET IND:IMP: inscription on the coins. However since the new dies were not ready in time and there was a strong demand for coinage, the mint placed a tiny maple leaf after the date. The old obverse was still used for these coins, but the maple leaf signifies that the coins were struck in 1948. | |
