This coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Library of Parliament in Ottawa.
With a commanding presence on the shores of the Ottawa River, it is difficult to imagine that the Library of Parliament was once a transient collection of books travelling between Canada's early political centers. This was precisely the case until Queen Victoria selected Ottawa as Canada's capital and prompted the establishment of a permanent library there. Built in 1876, the Library's domed rotunda features gothic decorative windows, flying buttresses, pinnacles and beautiful wood inlay work.
