Muy pocos volvieron. Los más murieron de enfermedades tropicales o fallecieron en la batalla y el resto (varios cientos) se instaló en los nuevos estados que ellos habían ayudado a crear. " Los mercenarios de la Libertad " cuentan su historia poco conocida.
