How can I know if that piece of junk is a traffic RADAR or a just a streetlamp?

These are NOT RADARs (or fake speedcams): There is plenty of benches, streetlamps thac can lead to error, mistaking RADARs for anything else. Some elements look like RADAR booths, but there betrayed for not having holes for optics and flash. Other are weather stations, even provided with a vane. Or camera booths devoted to road traffic surveillance: Next model looks similar to a GATSO... let’s see, glasses on… Jeez!, let’s record coordinates for Robser:
Even looking like, this model won’t really fine you, even having an awesome cost/effectiveness ratio (especially if a hick waits for you, crowched down, armed with a walking stick): Next, some simple surveillance cameras. These, being in high posts or streetlamps, cannot be used for fining:
Photoelectric cells on some streetlamps should neither be mistaken for RADARs:
These cameras, behind a porch/panel are just car counters or dedicated to traffic surveillance: Have a look to the lovely cars Portuguese officers have been provided with: Ha, ha!!, they’re certainly not that good. Please do not run fast close to them… they might start flying!!!!: These booths in M50 in Madrid can easily lead to mistake. Even provided with a camera in the upper corner, they’re not RADARs. Recently, this model of infrared lightning-enabled traffic control cameras has been installed in Barcelona. Please pay attention to the fact they look really like on porch RADAR model 1b but, in contrast to it, there are here two cameras instead of three. And that’s not a traffic RADAR:
These panels usually warn you on the speed you are driving. They are not (still) used for fining. Weather stations next to roads are neither RADARs. They have a number of gadgets but these are intended to measure weather parameters, but not speed:
The following artifact is neither a RADAR. Something so huge and visible would never be suitable for collection purposes. That’s a registration number reader, and is usually placed in specific zones such as tolls and airports in order to file nasty guys:
Despite what is said in the news, helicopters cannot be used to fine you on speeding (they can if you’re recorded doing stupid things). DGT has just bought a helicopter enabled for fining in the future, but I am afraid that that’s more propaganda than any other thing. |
