The Big Vineyard dolmenIt's located in the Gavarres mountains, in Fitor. It was first published in the year 1920 by Maties Pallarés. He said that then the dolmen was still used as a shelter. Later authors have published it again. In the year 1970 the dolmen was dug by Lluís Esteva. The GESEART group considers it a probable passage tomb and says that in the back of the monument and attached to the capstone there are some rests of dry stone walls belonging to the epoch when the dolmen was used as vineyard shelter. Some stones of the tumulus and two other stones that could be part of the cromlech are still visible near it. The dolmen is very difficult to find because it stands in the midst of a dense forest. Sometimes people of Palamós clears the narrow trail that goes to it and then the monument is accessible with ease. |
